Art of Relief Composition Course
17th-21st June 2019
The world of relief sculpture was changed forever by the Florentine Masters by the simple inclusion of perspective. Used in countless forms of art from great cathedral doors to small tabernacle closures, this Florentine invention remains alone in its ability to express the actual and implied presence of volume. Join us for this ten-session course with Maestro Anthony Visco whose experience and techniques in relief instruct us in the four types of relief: alto, medio, basso and
schiacciato, together in composition.
The art of relief sculpture finds its basis in the careful combination of actual and implied form, actual and implied space. In this one-week workshop, you will be introduced to both the fundamentals and aspects of relief composition. Working from both direct observation and the live model, as well as in the north light, this class will include the various types of relief, how they are
used, designed, and composed. Discussions and demonstrations will include methods of illusion, modeling techniques, and relief perspective.
