Academic Year 2020/2021
The annual Painting program will be divided in three trimesters.
In the first trimester, the students will be introduced to painting exercises aimed at understanding the basics of the oil painting tecnique. Hence, the exercises will focus on learning how to mix colors, the different basic colors and how they affect the painting, the use of “matter” or “paste” to paint, and to develop a good taste in the selection of shapes and colors.
These exercises will then be used to paint a still life and two nude sketches which will be a first study of the color of the complexion.
In the second trimester we will continue with some exercises on the study of drapery (a fundamental feauture for Sacred themed paintings), the study of tones, the brushstroke that follows the volume of the object and the use of the halftone.
The students will be introduced to the study of the portrait focusing on the details of the face. This part of the course includes theoretical lessons on painting technique, classes on Photoshop, used as a support tool for Sacred themed compositions. They will also learn how to build a photo shooting set to take pictures which will be the basis for their first Sacred themed project.
The third trimester will include more specific exercises devoted to the study of contrast and matter in painting through still life painting. In addition to theoretical lessons and plein air landscape study, hands and feet study from live models will be the starting point to paint a nude figure and to complete a second Sacred themed project.
