Course The Four Canons of Composition
10-21 December 2018
In sacred art the various types of composition become the matrix of the content. This six-session seminar at the Sacred Art School / Florence demonstrates how and why some compositions are used in liturgical, devotional and religious art and architecture, but above all in their origin in Creation.
The intrinsic qualities of these four canons become evident because they combine both the sign and the symbol in Western and Eastern iconography and thus become the roots of the representative composition, especially in sacred art. In essence, this course is designed to help the artist find more synthesis between the canons of composition and content.
Using power point lessons and drawing, these six studio sessions are designed to allow the artist to use the visual instruments of the composition through these four canons. As a means to learn how to build an “active” rather than “passive” composition, we discover the basic structures that hide all the great representative art.
